5 Easy Tips for Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle in College
College is a busy, stressful yet exciting time for young adults. In addition, it is probably the first time they are living away from their parents and independent. Between all the late night studying, working to pay for college, and also trying to have a social life, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be extremely difficult. Throughout my four years of college, I have learned some valuable lessons on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, physically and emotionally, that are extremely easy to follow. Here are my five easy tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
You hear it all the time, drinking water is super important and one of the healthiest things we can do for our body (which is made up of mostly water!). I always like to carry a bottle water with me to keep me hydrated while I am on campus, in class, and in between classes on a break studying. In addition, water is very filling which will help make you feel full and not eat as much (major bonus!).
2. Make exercising easy and simple
College can be an extremely busy time! People may feel like they do not have the time to go to a gym and workout. However, getting your exercise is much more simple! Walk around when you are on a break! College campuses are a decent size and walk friendly, utilize it with the nice weather! Also TAKE THOSE STAIRS! The calories burned will start to add up :)
3. Make healthy food choices
Making a healthy food choice on campuses is becoming much easier! From salad bars to wraps, veggies, and smoothie places, college campuses provide many nutritional options (that come with your meal plan!). If you are a commuter, pack a healthy snack that will stay fresh while you are on campus!

4. Take time for yourself
Dealing with all the craziness and stress of college is extremely exhausting. Make sure to take the time to take care of your mental health! Whether it is reading a good book, watching a Netflix show, talking with friends, journaling,or even exercising, take that much needed R & R time for yourself. Just a half hour each day can make a difference!
5. Make a List
Lists always help me come up with what is at the top of my priority list and what can wait. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by my schedule,I make a list and it helps me settle down immediately, reducing the amount of stress. It reminds me to take it day by day and that everything will get done.
