It's a question most college students ask themselves.... "Is there anything fun to do around campus that is affordable?". Believe it or not... there is actually A LOT to do around a campus that will NOT blow out your bank account! Throughout my four years of college, I have discovered some amazing cheap/free events that are so much fun to be a part of! Here are some ideas I have from my own personal experience!
1. Sporting Events
Ever stuck in your college dorm room or apartment and wonder what is going on? More than likely there is some sporting event! In Fall, it's football and during the Winter, it's Basketball. These events are so much fun and a great way to show school spirit! Also, most colleges offer a get in for free with your student ID to these events or offer student discounts!
2. See what Residence and Housing Life has planned
The Housing and Residence Life Department on Campus is not only there to give you a comfortable living arrangement while living on campus, but also to provide fun experiences for those who live on campus! I know from experience there is movie nights, ice cream socials, midnight cram sessions during finals week, and so many other opportunities that Housing and Residence Life provide to get students out of their dorm and have some fun! Check out your university's Housing and Residence Life website to see what they have to offer!
3. Club and Intramural Sports
Most of the Rec Centers on campus offer co-ed intramural and club sports for fun! I know my sister played soccer with her friends and had a blast. Get some of your closest friends together and form a team for any sport (soccer, basketball, etc)! It is a great way to stay in shape have fun, and meet new people!
4. Lecture Series
Most universities have special guest lecturers that come in to give a lecture on a certain topic. For example, Nancy Grace just came to speak at my university a few weeks ago! These events are typically free for students as well and a great opportunity to hear some interesting stories from well-known and respected people. Check out your university's website to see if they offer any lectures that you might be interested in!
5. Organizations on Campus
University's have so many organizations that you can be apart of! From career specific to faith-based there are many opportunities to connect with others who share similar interests to you! In addition, they also offer fun events to go to that are either free or reasonably priced! For example, I recently went to an amazing worship night through a religious organization that was on campus. It was so much fun to experience it with others and was a great escape from all the stress of college! Go onto your university's website to see what organizations they have for you to be a part of!
As you can see, there are many fun, inexpensive things to be involved with on campus! All you have to do is look for them! Ask your friends, look at bulletin boards hanging in the dorm hallways and student centers, and I'm sure you will find something great to be a part of!
